The Marathi curriculum includes prose, poetry, comprehensive reading, grammar (language study), and applied writing such as letter writing, summary writing, advertisement writing, news writing, and story writing. The Maharashtra government has given Marathi the status of the first language in the state curriculum, with the first paper being Marathi. This subject carries 100 marks, with 20 for internal assessment and 80 for external written exams.
